the most
common procedures performed at Dr. Clayman's Plastic Surgery Center.  The images below are models used to portray these procedures & actual patient images are available during office consultations. Please call our office for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Breast Augmentation

Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation involves the placement of breast
implants to increase breast size, or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.
Many women experience improved confidence and body image after having breast augmentation.
Dr. Clayman will work with each patient to ensure they make the best decision for their individual case.
Breast Enlargement Options

It is important to know that as with all surgeries, there is a level of risk involved with
breast augmentation surgery. Patients considering breast implants in the Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra,
St. Augustine, Gainesville, Ocala, Lakecity, and surrounding Florida & South Georgia areas, must determine whether breast augmentation surgery is right for them, by weighing the risks and the
benefits of the procedure. Dr. Clayman will discuss the risks and benefits with each patient.
If you have droopy breasts, you may need a breast lift, also known as mastopexy.  A breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to return youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged as a result of
weight loss, pregnancy, loss of the skin's natural elasticity or simply the effects of aging and gravity.
The procedure can also reduce areolar size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and it can be
combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction for added firmness.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction, an operative procedure to remove excess breast tissue and skin, is highly individualized to each woman seeking breast reduction in north Florida. Dr. Clayman will remove
breast tissue and excess skin to create smaller more aesthetic looking breasts that sit higher on
the chest wall.
During the operation, your nipples will be moved to a higher position on your breasts without removing your nipples from the breast skin (in very select cases, extremely large breasts, it may be necessary
to remove and replace the nipples as a graft). Because the nipple preserves its attachment, most
women retain nipple sensation, the ability to attain an erect nipple, and the ability to breast feed.
Scars are the greatest drawback and are consistently located around the nipple and extending down, resembling a lollipop. There also may be an incision under the breast along the breast crease.
Male Breast Reduction is also a very common procedure, please see below for more information.

Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Clayman offers the full spectrum of breast reconstruction options to his patients, including both delayed and immediate reconstructive surgery. Dr. Clayman will meet with each patient to discuss in detail their individual options, helping each woman to determine her best personal option.
Dr. Clayman performs many types of breast reconstruction, including implant and expander-based reconstruction, as well as autologous reconstruction with Latissimus dorsi flaps, TRAM flaps, and a combination of implant/expander-based with an autologous reconstruction.

Liposuction

The most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. today, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can slim and improve the contour of specific areas of the
body by removing these excess fat deposits. These localized fat deposits may be the result of genetics or weight gain due to lifestyle or pregnancy. When diet and exercise have failed to remove these deposits, liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them.

A good candidate for liposuction should have realistic expectations about the results of this
procedure. Liposuction is not an alternative to diet and exercise. A tummy tuck/Abdominoplasty or another skin-removing procedure may need to be combined with liposuction (
lipoabdominoplasty)
or performed secondarily after liposuction to obtain the best results.
Abdominoplasty

Plastic surgery of the abdomen can accomplish many things that you cannot accomplish on your own, no matter how much you work out and watch what you eat. Diet and exercise may tone your muscles and help you lose weight, but will have a limited effect on improving the appearance of loose skin. A tummy tuck can resolve issues of excess skin and stubborn fat in the abdominal area, creating a slimmer and tighter midsection.  Abdominoplasty helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist
by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. The procedure can also be useful for women with stretched skin and lax muscles from pregnancy, weight loss, or age damaged skin.

Mommy Makeover
After childbirth, many women are concerned about changes in their bodies  that cannot be fully reversed by diet and exercise alone. Our patients often seek cosmetic improvement for drooping or sagging breasts, loss of breast fullness, loose abdominal skin and lax abdominal muscle tone, and stretch marks of the abdomen &/or breasts. With increasing frequency, women are turning to a combination plastic surgery procedure known as the "Mommy Makeover" to help reverse the physical changes brought on by pregnancy, weight loss or gravity.

Rhinoplasty / Nasal Surgery
Rhinoplasty is cosmetic nose surgery intended to improve the appearance and proportions of the nose. One of the most common plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that affect breathing.  Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local anesthesia, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia depending on the complexity.

If you have a breathing problem related to internal structures of the nose, either from trauma or other disorder, surgery can be performed on the
Septum or the Turbinates depending on the cause of your breathing troubles .  In a procedure called a septoplasty, Dr. Clayman can repair a deviated septum. This procedure is not considered cosmetic in nature since the goal of the surgery is to correct or repair the abnormality in the nasal septum, which is not externally visible. Septorhinoplasty is the combination of a septoplasty along with a rhinoplasty.

Facial Rejuvenation

-Rhytidectomy (Facelift)

A face lift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to impart a more youthful appearance to the lower face and neck. This procedure will lift sagging lower cheeks, and help diminish jowling
and perioral lines. This procedure is especially effective for loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw that can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin. It is important to note that a face lift will not stop aging, it can help your face look its best and give you increased self-confidence.  Short scar facelifts and other minimally invasive options are also possible depending on the complexity of your case.  Combinations of a facelift with fat grafting is also an option to restore shape and a youthful appearance to your face.

Chemical Peel

A face lift will not eliminate your wrinkles and other skin problems. Your surgeon may suggest a chemical peel, fat injection, or other wrinkle treatments in conjunction with your face lift.  A Chemical peel is done to improve fine wrinkles of the face and also to treat sun-damaged skin.  Since several types of chemical peel exist, you will be given information specific to your peel.  Soft tissue fillers & Botox are adjunctive options which can be used with facial rejuvenation surgery or by themselves independent of surgery.  Depending on your concerns and goals, you may have a traditional face lift, limited incision or short scar face lift, or a neck lift. There are variations in the locations of scars / incisions depending on which approach is best for you.  A good candidate for a face lift is physically healthy, a non-smoker and someone who has realistic goals in mind for surgery.

Botox®

When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry or tired.  BOTOX® is a minimally invasive procedure that can leave you looking younger and refreshed. This safe and extremely dilute toxin will weaken certain, targeted facial muscles to stop wrinkling of the overlying skin.  Patients with tension and migraine headaches may be greatly helped with BOTOX® injections.  Also, stopping the skin wrinkling in certain key areas such as the
'crow's feet', forehead and area between the eyes caused by recurrent facial animation, further prevents wrinkles from becoming deeper and more permanent with time.  BOTOX® may also be used to combat 'hyperhidrosis', or excessive sweating of the axillary (armpit) areas and/or the hands.  Dr. Clayman performs all his Botox and Filler injections himself and will examine all of your concerns.

Fillers: (JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, etc...)

Skin contour can be improved by the aid of injectable soft tissue fillers. Common fillers used to improve skin texture include both collagen, hyaluranic acid (HA) and fat.  Fine lines found around the eyes and mouth can be greatly minimized by this treatment. By injecting a filler underneath the affected areas of skin, the skin above is raised, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance.

Juvederm®
Touted as the "next generation" of facial fillers, Juvederm® injectable gels gently smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose and restore a youthful volume to the face. Made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to provide volume and support to the skin, Juvederm® is especially effective on smile lines and "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) that run from the bottom of the nose to the sides of the mouth. This material is not of animal or human origin, which means that there is no risk of allergic reaction.  Treatment takes only 15 minutes with immediate results and no downtime.

Restylane®
Approved by the FDA, Restylane® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. Restylane® is a clear transparent gel composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance
that is found throughout your body. This material is not of animal or human origin, which means that there is no risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for a Restylane® treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the
angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane® remains in your skin for many months.

Fat Grafting

With aging, massive weight-loss and occasionally disease, the face may tend to lose volume and fullness resulting in hollowing of areas particularly around the eyes, below the cheekbones, and in
the temporal areas.  Facial skin may start to sag down towards the mouth area creating prominent "nasolabial folds".  These changes may suggest a more aged-appearance.  Volume correction may be performed by taking fat from other areas (such as the abdomen, hips or buttock areas) that is then injected into the hollow, facial areas in a process called "fat transfer" or
"fat-grafting" to restore that more youthful shape.

Brow Lifts Blepharoplasties

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a procedure designed to raise the eyebrows, smooth the forehead and reduce signs of aging. This procedure is highly individualized, so Dr. Clayman will
speak with you specifically about the look you wish to achieve. A brow lift will also soften furrows or wrinkles across the forehead, or those high on the bridge of the nose and between eyes. The
surgery can improve frown lines, raise eyebrows, and vertical creases often seen between the eyebrows.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure
to improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can rejuvenate 'tired-appearing', saggy or puffy eyes.  Blepharoplasty can improve the appearance of the
peri-orbital region by making your eyes appear younger, more alert, and less tired. This procedure rejuvenates eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle and/or fat.

Permanent Eyeliner

permanent eyeliner is the most sought after permanent cosmetics procedure and it is easy to understand why.  Most women feel 'naked' without eyeliner however it is usually the most difficult and time consuming daily makeup to apply. Women who have invested in permanent eyeliner appreciate the smearpoof, hassle free, moistureproof coloring it provides. Permanent eyeliner allows women the freedom to "wake up with makeup" and get a head start on their day!  Some of the benefits include: Athletic women who want a radiant, carefree look while exercising, women allergic to cosmetics, who have watery eyes, hay fever or whose skin tends to absorb or change the quality and color of their makeup, women with active lifestyles wanting the timesaving convenience from the daily routine of applying eye make-up, and women whose eye makeup smears or smudges on hot days.

Post-Bariatric Body Contouring Surgery

Weight loss success rates after bariatric surgery are excellent, with most patients reporting a very
high level of satisfaction with their bariatric procedure. Most patients, however, are left with excess
skin along their torso, thighs and arms which puts a damper on their enjoyment of their new body. Rarely, patients are able to reverse mild post-surgery changes with exercise alone, but most patients will need to seek a surgical solution to this problem.

Candidates for body lifts typically suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or significant weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, arm lifts and liposuction to retain a proper body proportion. Body lifts tighten and tone the abdomen, back,
buttocks, hips and thighs.  Rejuvination of the face, breast, & arms is also an option after
post-bariatric / weight loss surgery.

Laser Hair Removal

During laser hair removal procedures, the laser produces an intense, but gentle, burst of light that fragments and removes the hair without harming the surrounding tissue.  Several treatments are required and every patients is different, depending on their skin & hair color.  If hair returns, it is
usually thinner and lighter, with a reduction in hair growth.  You may return to work immediately after treatment.  We only use true laser technology, with one of the most advanced machines available (
GentleMax™), not imitation devices.

The GentleMax™ Laser treatment is the newest and most powerful way to remove hair. The system contains two lasers: The Alexandrite or Alex, for lighter skin and The Yag for darker skin. Unlike
other laser treatments, the GentleMax™ laser system has been designed to work on any patient with
minimal risk (even in darker skin tones) and can remove hundreds of hair follicles at the same time. Unlike most other hair removal lasers, The GentleMax™ contains two powerful lasers that allow the most effective results with minimal risks.

Labiaplasty (Vaginal Rejuvination)

Labial surgery, or labiaplasty, serves many functions: it can improve
the appearance of the vagina, relieve discomfort, aid in proper hygiene, prevent chaffing from undergarments and clothing, and boost self-confidence. The procedure may be performed to correct external problems. External labiaplasty reconstructs the vaginal inner lips (labia minora) to remove excess skin and achieve a balance in size and overall much more pleasing and natural, youthful appearance.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Although rarely discussed, enlarged male breasts (gynecomastia) affects nearly 40-60% of men, often with no known cause. This condition can be highly embarrassing as well as physically uncomfortable.

Young men who feel self-conscious about their appearance of enlarged breasts are helped with breast reduction surgery. The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts and in some cases excess skin as well. The result is a flatter, firmer chest.  Minimally invasive techniques with the use of liposuction cannulas &/or small incisions is also an option depending on the complexity.

Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)

before ear pinback

after ear pinbackEar surgery for children or adults can set prominent ears back closer to the head and reduce the size of large ears. Surgery may also be helpful for "lop ear," "cupped ear" and "shell ear," large or stretched earlobes, and lobes with creases and wrinkles or stretched-out piercings. The operation can be performed on children as young as five years of age when the ears are fully grown to minimize teasing in school. The procedure may be performed in a hospital, certified office-based
surgical facility or an outpatient surgery center under sedation, general or local anesthesia.
